While congratulating the recent accounting graduates from the Fiji National University, the Fiji Institute of Accountants noted the severe lack of accountants with professional accountancy qualification.
Institute president Cama Raimuria said this was heavily due to the fact that our accounting graduates were just content with holding degrees.
“This attitude in the area of globalisation will set them back,”Mr Raimuria said.

Better opportunities
“Membership with professional accountancy bodies will provide better opportunities for accountants to practice their trade internationally.”
On that note, Mr Raimuria said: “We offer sincere congratulations to each graduate and welcome them to the profession.
“There are various membership categories in the profession that graduates can apply for and in Fiji, graduating with an accounting degree or obtaining professional accountancy qualification does not automatically make a person an accountant.
“To practice or maintain a Chartered Accountant practice in Fiji, one must register with FIA.”
In a release, the Fiji Institute of Accountants congratulated all accounting graduates of the university in particular the Gold Medalist Kaishif Nasibdar.
“This is a great personal achievement for each of these students and a significant step in their journey toward becoming members of a valued and internationally recognized profession of leaders,” he said.

Paving the way
“We hope that this achievement will pave the way and be the beginning of an excellent career path that will propel them towards greater heights.”
Mr Raimuria urged accounting students or professionals to join the institute as the institute he believed would provide the boost they needed the career path.
“The credence and the reliability of the accountancy profession should be fittingly considered in choosing the right career path. With accountancy knowledge, it will open a world of opportunities.”

Challenges to overcome
“Our Country and the Fiji community need us more than ever – I invite you all to come and join the profession.
“Numerous challenges lie ahead but I am confident that the enthusiasm and the strength of the current members and having you the new graduates on board will enable us to thrive.”
