Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), an internationally-renowned professional body of Company Directors, has established a Fiji Chapter.
This is to cater for the demands of its members in Fiji.
Australian Institute of Company Directors represents more than 33,000 company directors worldwide and has brought together leading business figures in creating a regional AICD committee in Fiji.
The institute’s Fiji Committee is chaired by Nouzab Fareed, who is also the chief executive of the Fijian Holdings Limited group chief executive and deputy chairman is Deo Saran.
Other members include HFC chief executive, Isikeli Tikoduadua, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Inia Naiyaga, BSP country manager Fiji, Kevin McCarthy and Holiday Inn Suva general manager, Joseph Della Gata.

Committee’s responsibilities
Mr Fareed said “The AICD Fiji committee is responsible for providing information and advice to the AICD on the changing needs of directors in Fiji and how the AICD can adapt its services accordingly.
“Our role is to provide leadership on issues affecting company directors and to promote excellence in governance across all organisations and sectors of the economy.
“The committee will also advise on suitable AICD’s events, education and professional development activities and determine how to effectively deliver these in the region.”

Training programmes
Mr Fareed said the Fiji committee is focused on identifying ways to launch and deliver the AICD’s education programmes and identifying opportunities for new programmes.
“We are responsible for ensuring the professional development and networking activities for directors and senior business leaders to undertake,” he said.
“We will deliver a three-day governance course for directors later this year.
“This is a comprehensive programme that will cover the key areas of directors duties and responsibilities, finance and strategy and risk.”

Calendar of activities
At present, there are 45 Company Directors from Fiji have become members of Australian Institute of Company Directors.
The Australian Institute of Company Directors Fiji Committee is planning a calendar of activities in an effort to further grow and support the local director community.
Mr Fareed said they are planning to bring an experienced director from a large Australian company for a luncheon meeting in Suva.
This follows the success of the recent Business Briefing on the new Fiji Companies Decree with over 200 business leaders attending the session.
