Air Pacific, soon to be Fiji Airways, joined many organisations around the world to celebrate World Day for Safety and Health at work yesterday.
The day was marked by medical and health checkups for all staff based in it Nadi head office.
These included dietary checks, dental checks, pap smears and advice on physiotherapy. Over 150 Air Pacific staff took advantage of the medical checkups.
‘We’re focussed on the well-being of our people, so it was great to have medical teams on hand today to undertake medical checkups and carry out general non-communicable diseases (NCD) awareness,” said Vikashni Sheila, Air Pacific’s General Manager Human Resources.
“Our theme today was ‘Prevention of Occupational Diseases’ and throughout the day our people, who turned out in numbers to participate, were informed about the importance of continued exercise and maintaining a healthy diet.”
“Safety is of paramount importance to Air Pacific in all aspects of our operations,” said David Huntzinger, Air Pacific’s General Manager Safety, Security and Compliance.
“We have no higher priority than the safety of our customers and our people, and Air Pacific has a dedicated team of safety and security professionals who ensure compliance with all OHS and local and international aviation safety protocols.
Celebrating international days like this with all staff of the airline helps us continue the focus on safety in our business.
As part of the observance of the day, the airline even declared usual smoking areas as non-smoking zones for the day.
