Boost for Fiji Connectivity

Samsung Electronics Co Limited has partnered with USAID Pacific Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity Partnership Project (DCCP), for the long-term commitment to the Pacific Island nations to deliver sustainable, measurable development digital education outcomes.

Samsung New Zealand would enable greater access to technology and increase digital skills and literacy for students, youths, and underserved communities such as persons with disabilities, USAID Pacific Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity Partnership Project (DCCP) chief of party Anju Mangal said during the signing ceremony in Nadi yesterday.

She said USAID DCCP aimed to increase digital access and connectivity and improve the efficient delivery and use of digital services throughout 12 Pacific Island Countries including Fiji.

 

“This commitment is a reflection of USAID’s trust in Samsung to deliver expertise and support to the initial Pacific nations, with the determination to equip youth and teachers with the skills to effectively utilise technology for improved educational outcomes,” Ms Mangal said.

Under the terms of this partnership agreement, Samsung would assist in increasing access to technology and online resources, with the result of enriching and modernise curriculums across the Pacific region.

Working with USAID DCCP, Samsung is expected to engage with Education Ministries, universities, schools, and community groups across the region to build digital skills, literacy, and competencies through comprehensive digital training programmes and ongoing support.

 

“This agreement has been months in the making and revolves around a long-term commitment to an initial 12 Pacific Island countries, that will improve digital access, connectivity, and support,” Samsung New Zealand’s head of B2B, Prentice Robb said.

“We are intent on building a brighter future and enabling the next generations, through bespoke digital equity programmes and innovation tech hubs.”

Samsung New Zealand will work in conjunction with USAID DCCP, to design project activities that deliver sustainable, measurable development outcomes to support digital literacy, skills, and digital equity in the Pacific.
