A new airport terminal will be constructed by the middle of next year.
Fiji Airports chief executive officer, Mesake Nawari, said the cost of the new terminal for Labasa would be determined after a tender was advertised.
“We are working closely with World Bank consultants who are working on the Vualiku Tourism Development Project that includes Labasa Airport,” he told SunBiz.
“We are working on the details before the project goes out to tender by the end of this year.
“If everything goes well, we expect to begin the works by the middle of 2024.”
Four years on
In another development, work on the Offgate Project at Nadi International Airport was expected to be completed next June.
The company has taken four years to complete the work which was awarded following rigorous tender process in 2020.
The tender was awarded to Lautoka-based Design Engineering.
“There were some delays because of COVID-19 and concrete mix,” Mr Nawari said.
“We still have the contractor working on the Offgate project.
“No money was lost.”
Design Engineering referred SunBiz queries to Fiji Airports.
