Mohammed Shamim Ali loves his job as a chef.
The executive chef at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva has more than 18 years of experience.
“I’m an outgoing person and I like to meet and share ideas with my colleagues,” Chef Ali said.
“I’m always willing to learn more about our local cuisine and explore ideas from different Pacific Island nations.”
He is also a celebrity chef having featured in the Pacific Island Food Revolution (PIFR).
The PIFR is an innovative programme that promotes local, healthy food in the Pacific to combat the non-communicable disease crisis through communications and partnerships.
“PIFR for me personally was where I got to influence the Pacific Island nations on healthy ways of eating,” he said.
“Learning new ideas about Fijian cuisine.
“It provided me the perfect platform to challenge myself and create innovative ideas with locally sourced ingredients in turning simplicity to another level.
“It made me learn to respect the humble rourou as it gives a lot of benefit to our health.”
Chef Ali shared some insight with SunBiz into his favourite food to places to eat and top travel destinations in Fiji.
What are your favourite local restaurants or cafes to eat and unwind?
I don’t really like to go out dining often. But if I do I would go to places where I feel relaxed like Zamzam.
Where do you take friends and visitors for a meal and to relax?
Cook at home and go for a day at the beach.
