Seven shops are part of phase 1 of the Damodar City Labasa commercial project have opened for business with phase 2 construction also nearing completion for opening later this year.

Speaking with SunBiz recently, Project manager, Cornelia Smith confirmed that these shops have opened in the supermarket wing of the Damodar City Labasa.

These included: Dollar Things, HFC Bank, Summer Trading, Zen’s Medical Centre, Vodafone’s Valuefone outlet, Fexco Western Union and the recently opened, Bhikhabhai shop.

Ms Smith said the remaining shops in phase 1 include the dine-in restaurants and Extra supermarket that are undergoing their shop fit-outs.

“These remaining shops will be opening in the coming months, with Extra Supermarket confirmed for October this year,” she said.

Construction for phase 2 is progressing well and is expected to open later this year.

The opening of the Bhikhabhai shop at the Damodar complex in Labasa, was welcomed by the customers in the friendly town.

A good line of customers turned up to taste and try the Indian sweets and delicious savouries on sale.

Company chief executive officer, Viraaj Lad believed the opening of their highly standard sweet shop would help improve the competition of Indian sweet sellers in Labasa.

Damodar City Labasa to have taxi base

Ms Smith confirmed that there will also be an allocation for taxi base space for taxi operators to be based and service customers to and from the complex.

This is similar to the Damodar City complex in Raiwaqa, Suva where a taxi bay is provisioned.

Labasa Taxi Association general secretary, Sujit Sharma has always welcomed extra space for taxi parking and operations.
