A luxurious nightclub opened in Labasa on Saturday with closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to protect nightcrawlers.

It was a project that took, Labasa-based business woman, Amelia Simmons, six months to open.

The $250,000 Underground Club Dance Bar Lounge is Labasa’s latest night attraction.

Ms Simmons is believed to be the only female state-of-art club investor in the North.

Ms Simmons said the investment was to provide employment to people who lost their jobs because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are 20 people employed at the club, which operates six days a week, from 5pm to 1am.

“This is a huge investment for the North as it provides a safe environment for all races and females who don’t have to fear of being harassed,” Ms Simmons said.

“The place is going to be available for hire for social events and fundraising which is also first for Labasa.”

She said Underground Club Dance Bar Lounge was different from the other nightclubs in Labasa.

“The nightclub has been cleared by the occupational health and safety sound engineer which will definitely not affect the neighbouring businesses,” he said.

“The CCTVs will monitor movements of people on the streets, and those entering and leaving the club.”

She encouraged people to support investors who want to invest in the North.

“I faced numerous challenges and criticism as many people objected to the opening of my business,” she said.

“Government wants private sector to grow, and I thank everyone who supported me.”

Ms Simmons also operates Underground Salon and Boutique, and Underground Lending Services in Labasa.
