VOMO Island Fiji, announced the appointment of Laisenia “Lai” Rokoua as its first first-ever resident on-site marine biologist, reinforcing their commitment to environmental sustainability.

VOMO is a member of the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES), an organisation founded in 2001 to protect the stunning marine environment of the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji.

To support the cause-wor thy initiative, a nominal fee of F J$5 will be added to the room charge per stay.

It is entirely voluntary and the fee may be removed if guests choose not to participate. VOMO is committed to reducing human footprint and has implemented some steps towards making VOMO single-use plastic free.

“We started small by eradicating the use of plastic straws on island and replacing with paper ones,” the resort said.

“The next phase was the introduction of our own bottling plant on VOMO.

“We opened an automated bottling plant that provides guests with purified drinking water in sealed reusable glass bottles.

“We have commissioned our own scented soaps and lotions or guest villas in ceramic dispensers, allowing us to do away with the small single use plastic bottles that hotels currently use.”

VOMO produces pure still and sparkling drinking water at its state-of-the-art bottling plant.

Drinking water is produced through a reverse osmosis system and treated to the highest international standards to purify.

It is mineralised and bottled on VOMO in recycled glass bottles sterilised at the bottling plant.

VOMO bottled water will be served in villas and residences and is served at bars and restaurants.
