A leading broadcaster believes the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission could enter the media space in a regulatory capacity; after the 13-year-old “draconian” Media Industry Development Act 2010 was repealed.
Communications Fiji Limited – the country’s only commercial broadcaster – made the remark in the wake of a possible surge in interest from the bulk of new shareholders from the Fiji diaspora and international investors.
“There has been speculation that this (repeal of MIDA) will lead to a concentration of ownership in the Fiji media industry;” CFL chairman, William Parkinson, said.
