Mining And Quarrying Council Will Raise Their Concerns At the Economic Summit

The Government has not responded to a host of serious concerns raised by the Mining and Quarrying Council, SunBiz learnt yesterday.

A formal letter to the Ministry of Mineral Resources – and a meeting with line Minister Filimoni Vosarogo – over challenges that plague the industry appears to have gone to nought, more than a month after the letter was drafted, and sent to the ministry.

The issues ranged from:

  • double dipping and duplicity in roles and fees, and
  • the fate of at least 15 companies in the sector.

A senior member of the council said the same concerns would be tabled at an upcoming Government-planned national summit scheduled this month.

The council is affiliated with the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF), which according to earlier reports called on all members to raise their concerns internally, without having to drag in the fourth estate.
