Justin King is the South Pacific’s top general manager, an esteemed annual regional hotel awards programme has announced.
The general manager for Vomo Island Resort was among notable mentions in the esteemed Australian 2022 Hotel Management Awards, which was held in Sydney.
Organised by industry magazine, Hotel Management, the awards categorised 50 leaders, departments and destinations across Australasia and South Pacific.
While attempts to reach him yesterday were unsuccessful, Mr King scooped the top spot ahead of two highly commended industry leaders -Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort’s Darren Shaw, and Marriott International’s multi property vice president Pacific Islands, Neeraj Chadha.
Appointed to lead the resort in April, 2019, Mr King previously managed an island resort in the Yasawa region, and was instrumental in the creation and management of Tasmania’s Saffire Freycinet Lodge.
Mr King held senior roles in London, Doha, and Sydney.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he retained staff at the Mamanuca resort, and directed workers to other projects around the private beachfront property.
Top Fijian properties: Castaway Island Resort, Sofitel Fiji Resort
Meanwhile, Castaway Island Resort and Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa were winners under the Fijian Property category, while InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, and Vomo Island Fiji were highly commended.
Club Wyndham Denaray, Sheraton Fiji Golf Resort and Beach, and IHG were also mentioned or awarded under other categories.
IHG Hotels and Resorts were highly commended under the accommodation chain category, where Accor was named winner.
HM’s 2022 Australiasian hotelier winner was David Mansfield of The Ascott Limited, with IHG Hotels and Resorts Leanne Harwood named among the highly commendables.
