Club Wyndham Denarau’s Alvyn Chandra and Rose Tubuitamana won big at the Hotel Management Magazine Awards for Hotel Excellence in Asia Pacific last Friday.
The duo were part of the Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific who have been awarded multiple accolades at The Star Event Centre in Sydney, Australia.
About HM Awards
The HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence are the most prestigious industry awards in the region and celebrate the best properties, departments, people, chains and brands.
Each year, more than 1,500 nominations are assessed to determine more than 40 category winners.
A record crowd of 1,000 hotel industry professionals attended the 20th HM Awards.
Hotel Engineer
Mr Chandra, 39, the chief engineer, was recognised as Hotel Engineer of the Year.
“I am humbled and thankful for this award, it is a wonderful recognition, this is big for the property and it shows the hard work performed all these years,” Mr Chandra said.
“I have been in the tourism industry for 14 years, recently it has been through a tough time, and I am proud of this award.”
Originally from Maro, Nadroga, Mr Chandra attended Tuva Primary and Cuvu College before he completed Diploma of Electrical Engineering from FIT (now FNU).
He has been involved in the hotel industry for the last 14 years.
The father of two dedicated the awards to his late dad, who passed away in a car accident back in 1994 whilst he was a year six student.
Housekeeper Award
Ms Tubuitamana, 57, the housekeeping manager was highly commended in the Housekeeper of the Year category.
“This is a Wow to me! I am immensely honoured to be given this award,” Ms Tubuitamana said.
“Simply when we have done our best in our work, we will be elevated.
“Travel is back, and I thank the team’s laser focus, Club Wyndham and managed resorts for offering elevated experiences to our club members and guests.”
Ms Tubuitamana dropped out as a Year 10 student but took on all life’s challenges.
The mother of two moved to Australia and joined Quest property based in Queensland in 2009.
Without any experience, she took up the challenges and it paid off after she mastered the job and became a trainer.
She moved back to Fiji in 2013 and joined Club Wyndham.
Recognition
In further recognition for Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific, Talent Development
manager, Katherine Ireland was awarded the Human Resources Associate of the Year.
President and International Operations managing director, Barry Robinson was awarded Asia Pacific Hotelier of the Year.
