Atish Kumar and his wife, Basant Kaur have recently opened an eatery in Labasa with an investment of $50,000.

Located opposite Gurbachan Singh Mall, Jaduram Street in Labasa Town is the Bamboo Bristo Bar and Café.

The new interior design is made of bamboo, which has never been seen in the Babasiga Town, thus the naming of the restaurant.

Originally from Vunimoli, Mr Kumar has 19 years of work experience in the hotel industry.

He started as a chef in numerous hotels in Fiji.

He spent a year in New Zealand working for Bread and Butter Café before opening his own restaurant in Auckland city. His love for homemade food made him return to Fiji.

He opened two restaurants in Suva by the name Bamboo Shack.

“It has always been my dream to open a restaurant in Labasa offering quality and different types of food in a suitable environment where people can enjoy their time,” he said.

“The prices of the meals are affordable considering the economy of Labasa Town.”

The 36-year-old has employed three staff.

The restaurant is open from 8am to 9pm.

Mr Kumar thanked his wife for being his pillar of strength and late father-in-law Sohan Singh for their support.
