President Visits Aviation Academy, Nadi

The Fiji Airways Aviation Academy in Nadi hosted the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere on Friday.

This was the first time for to visit the academy in his capacity as Head of State, since the facility opened in October 2021.

Fiji Airways managing director and chief executive officer Andre Viljoen briefed Ratu Wiliame on the features of the Academy and the benefits it has brought the national airline.

 

“It was an honour for the Fiji Airways Aviation Academy to receive the President and to demonstrate to him the advantages of having this multi-million facility at our disposal,” Mr Viljoen said.

“I am pleased more-so for the support that the President has shown to the national carrier for our years of service to the Fijian people.”

“To date, 24 local pilots have undergone promotional training moving from Second Officer to First Officer, or First Officer to Captain using the academy.

“This has increased our cadre of highly skilled pilots while at the same time reducing the cost of sending them overseas for training,” he said.

Executive manager operations Captain Aaron Dean took his the President on a guided tour of the academy, to see the range of facilities at the Academy.

The highlight was a session in the A330 simulator where Ratu Wiliame experienced what it’s like to be at the helm of a Fiji Airways A330-300 aircraft.

During the tour, Ratu Wiliame also paid a visit to new employees undergoing cabin crew training at the Academy. port to the national airline.

Fiji Airways also thanked President for his continued support to the national airline.
