From a farmer to becoming a business man was an achievement for Nilesh Chand of Nasau, Nadi.
Mr Chand dropped out of school while in Year 10 at Mulomulo Secondary School to help his father and grandfather in their farm.
He went on to become a vegetable farmer later on.
Last year, his brother Dilesh Diwan Chand, who had lived in Australia for six years, gave him money to help him set up a business.
With an investment of $125,000, Mr Chand opened his solar business, Sunrise Solar, at their home in Nadi.
“The business has been really good as Fijians are now using solar for electricity,” he said.
“All the products are from China, orders are made every six months or according to the shipping schedules.”
Within one year of operation, Mr Chand has now paid 50 per cent of the money he borrowed from his brother.
He had also secured customers from the maritime islands.
