Being a single parent for eight months did not stop Shane Singh from achieving his dream to open a coffee outlet. Mr Singh, a father of two children, Vincent Singh, 16, and Jennifer, 10, is also the managing director of the Nadi-based business, Under One Roof Contractor (Fiji) Pte Ltd.

Originally from Lautoka, he had an ambition to make his children happy, and work hard to also prepare for their future.

The idea to open a coffee outlet came about last month when he realised the trend in meeting several clients daily in coffee shops.

“Coffee shops are a hotspot for most business people,” he said, adding that he was one of them.

“In construction, I have clients to meet daily. I can have clients come to my coffee shop, dine in, have coffee or even dinner, while we chat.”

Mr Singh is also investing about a quarter of a million dollars where it is scheduled to open in the next two months in Martintar, Nadi.

“I am going to make this coffee shop classic, with an overseas standard,” he said.

His future coffee outlet would cater for more than 100 people at any one time.

He is looking to employ more than 20 staff. The coffee shop will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with customer’s coffee of choice from beans purchased from New Zealand.

Mr Singh is also purchasing the coffee beans from New Zealand. Motivated by his two children, he said they would be future directors of the business.

“No one should ever give up being a single parent and looking after children.”
