Exports are on the horizon for a locally registered peanut butter manufacturer.
The news comes just months after Island Style Peanut Butter opened for business in Fiji.
Owner, Gary Pickering, said short term plans for his Wailoaloa-based factory, involved consolidating its place in the Fijian supermarket space as the premium peanut butter.
“In the short to medium term, we would like to explore export options within the Asia – Pacific region,” the Labasa-born businessman said.
“We hope to be able to offer employment for local Fijians as we grow.”
“In the long term, we hope to be able to grow Hi Oleic peanuts in Fiji, as a new agricultural export.”
Mr Pickering moved with parents to New Zealand, in his younger years.
He was part of the cabin crew at Air New Zealand for 20 years.
His peanut butter making business was initially a side hustle.
Mr Pickering returned to Fiji with his wife and sons, to start a peanut butter business for the niche market.

South Pacific Coffee Company, on the Nadi back road, has great coffee, and the team are always so friendly and knowledgeable.
Kanu Gastro Pub, Nadi for a sweet treat, and a chance to see what Chef Lance Seeto is whipping up.

A balcony view overlooking part of Wailoaloa beach, Nadi.
What Is Your Favourite Backyard Spot?
Wailoaloa Beach.
Our little factory is in Wailoaloa, so after work we love to take the boys down to the beach to kick the ball around, and have a swim.
There are great little restaurants too along there.

Beach Street in Levuka
What Is One Place In Fiji That Is On Your Bucket List, And Why?
Levuka.
I’d like to take the family there to check out the historical sites.
Also, my grandfather on my father’s side was the headmaster of Levuka Public School, many years ago.
