Vanuabalavu Vision Limited, an investment company with commercial interests in equity and property, offers a unique savings scheme for its shareholders, says business/property manager Tomi Finau.

With a portfolio of an estimated $10 million, the company has grown from strength to strength, since it was established in 1992.

“The unique feature of the company is the fact that dividends are reinvested into developments on the island,” he said.

The livelihoods, standard of living and level of education are key areas of developmental focus for the company, Mr Finau said.

The company has 344 shareholders which include friends of Vanuabalavu.

Mr Finau hails from Vanuabalavu.

Work experience
Mr Finau held administrative roles in national rugby league development.

He continues to manage and administer the sport.

In the early 2000, he was the operations manager for Agriculture Marketing Authority, after which he joined Fiji Shipping Corporation Limited as trade development officer.

Mr Finau was the manager hotel operations and marketing for Yatu Lau Company, before he became manager for Mualevu Tikina Holdings Limited.

What is one place in Fiji you would take friends to?
Bay of Islands, Vanuabalavu.

It’s home for me.

Located in the Northern Lau Group, it is the main attraction of Vanuabalavu.

The locals know the place as Qilaqila.

It is perfect for mooring.

Vanuabalavu, with its 17 villages, is the third largest island in the Lau Group.

What is your favourite spot for a coffee or pie?
WETA, at Selbourne Street, Suva, is out of the way, out of town, with no parking problems.

What is your favourite backyard spot?
Naruarua Island, Vanuabalavu.

It is an uninhabited island, five minutes by boat from Vanuabalavu.

It’s the one place I can safely sit under a coconut tree, look out to sea, and reflect on life.
