Who Will Lead The SPX Board Next?

Is Janice Nand touted to be next the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX) board chair?

People in the know are increas­ingly speaking of Ms Nand as a top candidate.

People expect to be asked, say yes and be appointed on boards. Very transparent and you can get good people if only they ap­ply. Ms Nand closely follows the outgoing SPX board chairperson, businesswoman and prominent accountant Nur Bano Ali’s shadows.

Ms Nand is a director at the South Pacific Stock Exchange, SPX Trustees Limited, Fiji Chamber of Commerce and In­dustry (FCCI), Women in Business (WIB), Yatule Beach Re­sort Limited, Natadola Bay Resort Ltd for Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and Marriott Group Fiji.

Ms Ali completed her full term on the board and is now the chair of the SPX Trustees Limited.

With nine years on the SPX board, Ms Ali’s name is syn­onymous with women empowerment, not only that she has championed a lot of nation building initiatives.

Ms Nand has over 20 years’ commercial experience as an in­ternational lawyer, adviser and trainer.

She has a Master’s Degree in Law majoring in International Trade & Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR).

She has an undergraduate degree in Information Technol­ogy and specialises in Digital Transformation, Data Protec­tion, Privacy and Cyber Security.

She is an entrepreneur and is Principal of her Law Firm, Solved Legal and Director of the ICT Company, Solved (Fiji) Pte Limited.

Ms Nand has worked for major international firms and as an in-house corporate counsel for large regional and global organisations.

She brings with her years of international experience solv­ing complex problems which leverage innovative agile solu­tions and accelerated transformation.

Ms Nand has global fundraising experience from public, pri­vate and philanthropic organisations across many domains, most recently in Ocean and Climate Funding.

She is currently serving many organisations in Fiji as a board member, General Counsel and Strategic Adviser.

She also specializes in advising boards and senior execu­tives:

  • how to navigate the evolving threat landscape,
  • governance,
  • risk and compliance issues,
  • cyber breaches,
  • incident response management,
  • business resilience,
  • data privacy and trust compliance,
  • vendor selection,
  • corporate due diligence and
  • contracts management.

Being a director or becoming chair of SPX is not just a fancy title. It is more than that. It comes with the responsibilities, accountabilities and the territory.

Meanwhile, SPX has been advertising an expression of in­terest for an independent director. Applications for the ex­pressions of interest closes by 5pm on Friday, December 31.

All director appointments are subject to Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) approval and in particular the satisfactory meet­ing of the fit and proper tests set by the RBF.

The Independent Director appointment is on an interim ba­sis and is subject to shareholder approval at the 2022 Annual General Meeting.

  • and influence executive leaders within an organisation with solutions requiring strategic and multidisciplinary analysis and advice.
