The Labasa Sugar Mill will be ready for the mid-June start of the cane processing season.
Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairman, Abdul Khan, said maintenance still continues at the mill, and as mid-June arrives, the mill will be ready.
“It will be ready for mid-June start of cane processing season and the maintenance works will be completed by the time we start processing sugarcane,” he said.
Mr Khan said they are yet confirm the final dates, but the mills in Fiji should start within weeks of each other.
In an earlier report, Mr Khan, said plans are being put into place for the Labasa mill to basically ensure the mill is ready for the cane crushing season.
He further said last year’s technical problems or the stoppage last year had been nothing out of the ordinary.
Meanwhile, 38-year-old Atish Chand of Vunivau, Labasa, said they are looking forward to harvest their produce.
“We have been maintaining the fields by cutting out the weeds and keeping the crops tidy and ready for manual cane cutting and look forward to next month,” he said.
