In marking its 115th anniversary here, Westpac Fiji will be launching a new product on Denarau Island in Nadi tomorrow evening.
Westpac Fiji general manager, Brett Hooker, confirmed the launch of Westpac’s new EFTPOS terminals which will bring good news to vendors and customers.
Good news that this will mean faster transaction times and customers and vendors won’t have to wait long before receiving the approval.
Mr Hooker said the changeover will be progressive and they have already started changing in the market.
“So you will see supermarkets and big outlets where we have changed to the new VX EFTPOS terminal,” he said.
“The new terminal is the latest and greatest and it is the product which Westpac uses in Australia and New Zealand.
“So we have been lucky enough to tap straight with our business in Australia and bring that product to Fiji.”
Benefits
As highlighted earlier, Mr Hooker said the main difference for the merchants and customers will be with the speed of the transaction.
“It’s the latest technology which puts the speed of the transaction quicker. This, for our merchants and customers, is key because they want to provide and receive fast point of sales service.”
Merchants will also have the opportunity brand this terminal according to their own brand.
“It has a screen on it so we can actually put one of our customers branding on the machines in their stores which is quite unique in the market and merchants will love it,” Mr Hooker said.
Investment
Mr Hooker noted that investment is always significant in their IT, but one which they are happy which. However, this is why they have staged the introduction.
“We will look to replace these terminals over the next 12 months,” he said.
“There is always essential cost associated with IT, however, big focus of our business here is to try and bring the banking service to the levels we see in Australia and New Zealand.”
And therefore, Mr Hooker said they are always looking to enhance anything to do with electronic channels.
Celebrations
Westpac’s Regional Head for South Asia and the Pacific, Greg Pawson, was to arrive in the country yesterday to join in with the birthday celebrations.
Mr Hooker said they are going to concentrate on celebrating this milestone with their staff because they are the nucleus of their business.
And they with have celebrations right across the business the past Friday where every branch and business banking centre had morning tea.
