The Women Entrepreneurs Business Council has started to fulfil one of its major priorities when its intended one year strategic plan was endorsed the past month.
On Thursday, a number of women already in business and women from the Market Vendors Association, got together and shared stories of their various backgrounds at the SCC Civic Auditorium.
This first step was in the council’s hope to witness a transition for those unregistered women in business and those in the informal sector to transition to the formal sector.
The overall plan was based on three key action plan areas. Legislation, Financial Literacy; Training, Business Development and Networking were identified when the plan was in the making in May.
Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation programme officer, Suka Salusalu, said the WEBC Strategic Plan said they hoped the informal networking session would build confidence amongst both sectors.
Ms Salusalu said: “We believe women in information contribute significantly to the economy and also through a full development their contribution is significant.
“If developed further they can do much better in business just as other businesses flourish into big businesses.”
Despite a late start, it was clear the energy among was the women had started to take off.
About 40 women from both sectors exchanged contacts, laughed and shared their experiences to start what would be deemed as a lifelong relationship.
