InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and the National Employment Centre have signed and trained 59 NEC participants under their current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The agreement is aimed at developing local talent in the community by providing full time employment opportunities with InterContinental Fiji’s IHG Sanasana Village Hospitality Academy (SVHA) and Nannies Programmes.
Established in 2010, InterContinental Fiji’s SVHA community programme has been providing unskilled school leavers from the Natadola Bay community with training and employment for a career in the hospitality industry.
The programme now has an average annual intake of 40 school-leavers and runs along side the resort’s Nannies Programme.
The programme offers professional childcare training by Child Wise Australia to local village women. Furthering IHG Academy community engagement initiatives, the resort joined forces with the NEC to increase the reach of the IHG Fiji National Training Framework.
The MOU is specifically aimed at creating stronger ties between the IHG Sanasana Academy, Nannies Programme and National Employment Centre to alleviate unemployment and develop local talent in Fiji.
“As the People’s Resort, we are committed to the people of Fiji and pleased to provide these much needed opportunities. The signing of the memorandum is a show of support by the Fiji Government and we look forward to working together to not only improve our youths’ employability, but create actual job opportunities for the people of this nation,” Jacob Pau’u, Training Manager at the InterContinental Fiji said.
“InterContinental Fiji also has an agreement with local tertiary institutions University of the South Pacific and the University of Fiji to accept interns and trainees,” he added.
In a letter of appreciation, the Ministry of Labour said they looked forward to maintaining partnerships for the betterment of the nation as a whole.
