The fourth cane payment is likely to be paid out next week.
Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairmanAbdul Khan confirmed they were in the process of finalising finer details of the payment.
“With all provisos in place, we are expecting that the fourth cane payment be given out by next week,” Mr Khan said.
He further stated they were in the process of collating data on the amount to be paid out.

Mills’ condition
Mr Khan said all four mills were in good condition and ready for the crushing season, next month.
Mr Khan said since the restructure of the industry was undertaken, they have had good crushing seasons without any breakdowns.
He said that with crushing expected to start next month, they have kept up with the maintenance of all mills and were positive that crushing season would go on well.

Indian engineers
Mr Khan said the assistance provided by the experts from India has been very well-received by the corporation and the employees.
“This time, we have got a number of engineers from India and they have been working very well with the local staff. The success of such initiatives translates also into the success of our mills,” Mr Khan said.

Health issues
There had been some issues raised that a blind eye had been turned on the health and safety issues, which Mr Khan said, were not true.
“Foremost, we have to remember that we are a factory which produces foodstuff. All containers which hold molasses and other items are fully sealed,” he said.
“We do not compromise on our standards.”
