Kila Organic Farm, a subsidiary of Pleass Global Limited, has recently harvested what it says is a “25cm” long passion fruit”.
Farm manager Ritesh Sharma said this was the very first fruit they managed to get as fully certified organic as it was planted two years ago and this was harvested on Tuesday.
Whilst at this stage, the company has no intention of selling passion fruits in the market, Mr Sharma did confirm there were plans to do so in the future.
“For now, this is just on a small scale and trial basis. We do have plans to sell the passion fruits in both local and export market in future,” he said.
In 2008, Pleass Global Limited acquired 427 acres of freehold land in Namosi where the farm is located and is part of Kila World.
He said: “This is an organic farm in which no chemicals are used, guarantees the highest quality farm produce for the benefit of nature and people.
“The organic farm complies with all the requirements of Australian Certified Organic.
“In terms of latest development, we have planted more vanilla and pepper, cardamom and nutmeg. And we are also replanting banana and dalo as all in organic.
“Our plans are to grow more of the organic products in terms of spices, fresh produce, vanilla, pepper and root crops for both local and export market.
