Workshop to empower women entrepreneurs

MARAIA VULA
Suva

The Women Entrepreneurs and Business Council, under the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation, is using social media to empower women in all sectors in entrepreneurship.
The federation, in partnership with the US Embassy, organised a half-day workshop with Unwired providing the back Internet service at ILO Conference Room, Dolphins Plaza in Suva yesterday.
Federation programme officer, Suka Salusalu, said: “We are trying to develop women both in the formal and informal sectors on how they can position their products and services in public.
“The social media should be able to market their products better and they would be able to go out and explore what is out there in the market.
“This is part of the training activity that we had set for them. We have financial literacy and risk management coming up and also legislation.
“We were supposed to have 15 participants but now it’s over 25 people and we are not counting out anybody as it’s an inclusive exercise for women.
“If they are small or big businesses this is where they can voice their concern or learn from each other and share the knowledge.”
Workshop facilitator Mathilde Piard, who is also the CoxMedia group manager social media from US, was very excited about the training.
