Westpac Fiji has opened nominations for round five of the Westpac Women’s Education Grants programme.
The programme offers women and girls a chance to gain financial assistance to help in the cost of their education.
The launch of the round 5 of the grants was held at Lelean Memorial School in Nausori yesterday along with a side donation of second hand copiers and printer from the bank to school.
Westpac is offering a total of nine education grants in this round for tertirary students or workers who would like to return to their study.
Westpac Fiji head of Retail, Michael Mjaskalo, said: “Westpac helps women and girls ‘Learn today for a better tomorrow’ which is also the theme for this year’s grant programme.
“The bank recognises the critical link between learning and the broader empowerment of women across the Pacific.
“We believe our great country can only reach its full potential when women have stronger leadership and economic opportunities.
“An important part of the reason we’re committed to these grants is because we believe education is key to achieving these aims.”
Applications opened yesterday and close at 5pm Friday, July 11 and winners will be announced on Monday, July 28.
Mr Mjaskalo stressed they have seen first-hand how they are helping not only the winners but their families and communities as well.
“Women and girls who benefit from education have far stronger chances of entering the workforce and enjoying a strong and stable career,” he said.
“The Westpac Women’s Education Grants provide the helping hand they deserve.
“I strongly encourage all women and girls from around the country to apply for a grant; it’s a big step towards helping them achieve their personal and professional goals.”
Adi Cakobau School principal Salote Nawalowalo said: “We welcome the initiative because it will help students further their studies and also an opportunity for them to practice their essay skills.”
