The association is looking to install about 50 machines as part of future plans

Fiji Fuel Retailers Association is looking at the possibility of installing EFTPOS machines at all service stations across the country.
The association is in proposal talks with commercial banks for a cost reduction to enable the installation of these machines.
Association president, Naseer Khan, said 40 cents equates to the sale of fuel sold at the present margin which was a huge cost for them.
Mr Khan highlighted this during the association’s annual general meeting at Tanoa Plaza in Suva yesterday.
“We are right now talking to all the banks and have requested major banks to give us a proposal from what are charges on the credit card and the debit card,” Mr Khan said.
“And we will as an association visit banks which has got a best deal.”
He said this was one of the association’s major constraints and assured assistance from their side to the banks that will enable facilitation.
“For security reasons we would like to assist the bank in taking cash out of the circulation,” Mr Khan said.
If all goes well, they will install about 50 machines.
Another concern
Another area of concern for the association is what Mr Khan describes as ‘the challenges of an ever-increasing cost of doing business’.
“We are faced with the challenges faced by price control and we have always made that our forefront that we are actually operating at a break-even margin and these are some of the challenges.
“The cost around us have increased. The basic wages have increased but the margins and the fuel price has not increased and that is a challenge and a major concern.
“We have made very lengthy submissions to the Commerce Commission, they dealing with it and we are having a constant dialogue with the Commerce Commission.
“However they have not yet come up with a timetable as to when these margins will be given to us.”
