Most of the Fiji Bus Operators Association office bearers were re-elected unopposed with two new members at their annual general meeting yesterday.
The meeting commenced after a series of discussions with various stakeholders during the association’s annual convention at Novotel Lami Bay Convention Centre yesterday.
Under the association’s constitution, the position of president and vice president rotates every two years and a president is elected during that rotation.
Meanwhile returning to their posts are general secretary Rohit Latchan, treasurer Ravishwar Chandra, assistant secretary Dhirendra Singh, assistant secretary Abdul Wahad, assistant treasurer Ajit Singh and assistant treasurer Nisar Ali Shah.
Two additional of the executive committee were elected, Jagdishwar Singh of Nadi General Transport and Inoke Silimaibau of Sunset Express.
In terms of elections, the Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum noted that there needed to be a review of the association’s Constitution regarding votes according to the number buses as opposed to companies. He said this was unfair for marginalised members and seriously needed to be reviewed.
Mr Kewal said he would discuss this with members and look for a way forward.
