The Sugar Cane Growers Council has welcomed Prime Minister Rear Admiral (Retired) Voreqe Bainimarama’s announcement for the extension of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
Benefits
The agreement will see concessions on wheel tax, road user levy tax and minor infringement notices issued to cane lorry drivers.
Council chief executive, Sundresh Chetty, said this announcement will give lorry drivers an opportunity to keep a constant supply.
“This means that the lorry operators will be given concession for yet another year and this is a great help for the sugar industry,” Mr Chetty said.
The agreement between the LTA, Fiji Sugar Corporation, Sugar Cane Growers Council and the Sugar Industry Tribunal is expected to keep a consistent supply of harvested sugar cane to the four mills.
