The Westpac microfinance night market was hailed a success on past week Thursday.
The event was a partnership between Westpac and the Suva City Council.
Westpac manager Sustainability Eseta Nadakuitavuki said: “About 50 vendors registered but because of the weather being unpredictable, most of them thought it would rain so they didn’t turn up.
“But apart from that about 38 vendors were present. I think about six to eight were new vendors selling here which is good, this shows there’s a lot of awareness on the night market.
“The live broadcast is something different again for the event compared to the past night markets where we have live bands playing,” she said.
There has also been a question around Westpac providing a tent which they believe would be a costly affair at the moment. This is one of the requirements for the night vendors because of the weather.
“We don’t charge them any fee but if that’s the way for Westpac to provide the tent then we might start charging levies to the vendors. This way we can reimburse ourselves for providing the tent,” she said.
The next micro finance night market is on June 12.
