What was perhaps a sign of blessing; light showers poured at Nausori Airport runway upon Fiji Airways’ 737-700 as she waited for passengers bound for Sydney, Australia yesterday.
After seven years of halting this service, Fiji Airways has revived this key critical route to better serve the capital’s business community.
The reintroduction of the service is said boost the company’s target of increasing its Australian flights by 28.4 per cent, managing director/chief executive, Stefan Pichler said.
Mr Pichler said the start of the two-weekly flight on Mondays and Fridays was ‘exactly what Suva needs’.
“It’s good because for us this is also a way to develop Suva as a business hub,” Mr Pichler said during a press conference.
And this, he said what was a definite plus for Fiji’s economy also complements the Suva-Auckland route.
100 passengers were personally handed Fiji Airways Koala Bear souvenirs, an essence reminder of the company’s work towards its Five-Year Master Plan.
“This is a milestone in developing and rolling out our Five Year Master Plan and growing the airline in terms of fleet,” Mr Pichler said.
Mr Pichler added if all goes well, there would be possibilities of increasing the frequency of flights to Sydney and look to other hubs in the Australian market.
“We think there are some opportunities there to grow at Nadi and at Suva and to grow maybe into new destinations in Australia,” he said.
Mr Pichler further announced its continued targeted commitment
