Coca-Cola Amatil Fiji is making a public pledge to what it says is a first in the South Pacific for them.
This is to develop initiatives and actions that provide inspiration and opportunity for Fijians to be more physically active.
Additionally, the pledge will also help achieve a balanced energy intake from the food and drinks consumed, said general manager, Steven Jowell.
He highlighted this during a press conference at the company factory in Laucala Beach.
“Our first commitment is to inspire even more Fijians to be physically active. Invest in initiatives that inspire 100,000 Fijians to participate in regular physical activity by 2020,” Mr Jowell said.
“This is an ambitious goal. But we believe adopting a regular, active lifestyle is important that we’re reaching for the stars.
“Our second commitment is provide more choice to consumers by offering and promoting lower calorie beverage options and appropriate pack sizes,” he added.
This would be the reformulation of a fresher version zero calorie Coke Zero beverage with modified ingredients to suit the Fijian consumers. It follows a research undertaken by the company.
He said: “Lastly clearly communicate and educate on the overall energy balance equation and specifically on how Fijians can choose the beverages that best suits their lifestyles.
“This is from food and beverages versus the energy they burn through physical activity,” he added.
