Sawakasa Mahogany Trust is planning to setup a business entity. This was highlighted as the Sawakasa Mahogany landowners expect opportunities to arise from the harvesting of mahogany expected to start soon.
Sawakasa Mahogany Station representative, Joeli Baleidrokadroka, told the Fiji Sun: “We will have to decide what form of business entity that best suites us; whether it is a co-operative, joint venture or limited company.”
“The women and children are involved because there are places where they can fit in when we establish offices. They can become surveyors, IT technicians and accountants etc.
“We are planning to establish the office in Korovou Town but everything is in the pipeline.”
Mr Baleidrokadroka’s comments were made on the sidelines of an inclusive consultation workshop at the Tailevu North College in Korovou on Friday in preparation to the planned mahogany harvesting operations to begin in Waito.
Under the Fiji Harwood Corporation Limited, there are plans to start harvesting soon in the Tikinas of Namalata, Naloto and Sawakasa.
