Matasawalevu Land Purchase Co-Operative Limited is inviting potential investors to partner with them to invest in its cocoa project.
The co-operative recently advertised expressions of interest for a partnership to revitalise the co-operative’s cocoa project at its Matasawalevu farm in Dreketi, Labasa.
Co-operative treasurer Shiu Chand said: “We don’t have the funds to revitalise the farm, that’s why we have issued this tender for potential local or overseas investors to enter in partnership with us.
“We want to run the project for our children and we are not selling the land. All the facilities like the dryer, bulk area, garage area are available all we need is somebody to come and work in partnership and start the job.”
Mr Chand said the 500 acre land had been idle for the past five year.
“We cleared about 30 or 40 acres which the Agriculture department in Labasa told us to do,” he said.
“But they never got back to us and our money was wasted there. We are facing challenges in maintaining the trees, fertiliser and other kinds of things around the farm.
May 9 is the closing date for all the sealed proposals to be sent in.
