The Grand Pacific Hotel’s general manager, Eugen Diethelm is bringing Europe to Fiji with a Changing the Guard or Guard Mounting concept.
Staff who are about to start and those who are finishing their shift will be involved.
A formal procession from opposite front ends of the hotel will be witnessed three times a day when the hotel opens this second quarter.
Mr Diethelm said it was a practice which he holds dearly at heart and which he takes with him to other hotel around the world he has managed.
Mr Diethelm said the formal ceremony is a new one.
He said it was a ‘hand over the job’ procession.
Meanwhile, staff displayed on Saturday what they would be wearing once the hotel officially opens.
It is understood that the 20 sets of uniforms have been customised and complement the different departments and job descriptions of the hotel.
Mr Diethelm said: “They were made in Hong Kong. The company belongs to a lady from Sydney.
“I looked around here but I could not find design and quality I wanted and so I went out of Fiji. I first scouted through five companies.
“I had in mind what I wanted and I had a meeting with these people and we came together with one good solution.”
The uniforms highlight three major colours: blue for the Pacific and Fiji, light brown for the colour of our sandy beaches and dark brown representing Fiji’s chocolate, he said.
