The Fiji Pharmaceutical Society has been mandated by the Ministry of Health to be more visible in moving forward.
Newly-appointed society vice president Reenal Chand said: “This means we need to be up-front and centre when it comes to pharmacy related matters so we plan to put ourselves on the front lines.
“We also plan to maintain the precedence set in 2013 in regards to continuing professional education activities by organising more seminars and activities for the benefit of our members.
“The society was also actively involved in negotiations with the Fiji Commerce Commission in order to reduce the price of essential medicines as mandated by the honourable minister for health.”
These were the highlighted issues discussed during the society’s annual general meeting held at the Lagoon Resort in Pacific Harbour on Sunday.
Challenge
Mr Chand said: “The society plans to help mediate and iron out certain issues between the members and the authority especially for the VAT (Value Added Tax) on certain medication.”
“We also have to be more active and this means getting in-line with the Ministry of Health’s plans for health promotions and awareness.”
