An Emirates SkyCargo Boeing 777 was yesterday sighted at the Nadi International Airport.
Speculation is that the plane was made available to assist the national carrier in transportation of cargo.
While no official word has come from Fiji Airways as chief executive and managing director Stefan Pichler is out of the country, it has been confirmed the Emirates Sky Cargo plane’s presence was related to Fiji Airways.
Fiji Airways and Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has an existing interline cargo arrangement.
The agreement sees both airlines offer rates for seamless carriage of cargo between Fiji and the Middle East and Europe.
Fijian exporters can now send their exports to these markets from Nadi on Fiji Airways to Sydney or Auckland, and then onto the Emirates SkyCargo’s global network. It is unclear whether this particular SkyCargo was in the country to carry plane cargo which the Fiji Airways A330 undergoing repairs was to carry.
Mr Pichler is expected to reply to queries sent by the Fiji Sun later because of his travel.
