Three years ago, a United States-headquarted company known mainly for its sewage and water management projects globally was awarded a $25 million five-year contract by Government to solve our roading network issues.
Because of its excellent track records in road network management from previous projects and its proposals, MWH Global has come a long way to assist Government in the road infrastructure.
One of the most fundamental and major step for the MWH that couldn’t have come at a better time was the key reform to establishing the face of Fiji roads, the Fiji Roads Authority.
A lot of issues were previously faced over the obsolete former Department of National Roads.
This not to mention backlog of maintenance, reseal and renewal work, dating back at least 10 years.
However, with the faith that Government has in the New Zealand-based company, we imagine somewhat of a bright and promising future for our roading infrastructure.
Initially, MWH, which is privately-owned, had become a management arm for FRA but it has now stepped back and is nowFRA’s principal consultant.
Sun Business had a chat with MWH Fiji Roading Network manager Mike Rudge.
He puts to rest some, if not all, a number of unanswered questions and highlights issues of the network, administrative, and other challenges and successes seen.
