The Terraces Apartment Resort Denarau has become the country’s first grid connected solar-powered resort.
A joint statement between the resort and service-provider Sunergise Fiji Limited confirmed this yesterday and there are hopes for others to follow suit.
Sunergise director Ajay Raniga said the installation of a 72.5 kilowatt solar photovoltaic array on the resort’s roof, will now generate all daytime power from clean, reliable energy.
The resort is also expected to save thousands of dollars in electricity bills from the use of the solar panels installed by Clay Energy, Sunergise’s engineering partner.
“We felt it was important to become the first resort to offer solar accommodation to our visitors,’’ said Gerald Barrack, chairman of the DGTA-INC.
“The pristine state of Fiji is a big draw card for our guests, many of whom return annually.
“And we’ve seen a growing trend towards our guests desiring not only luxury but also sustainability. Sunergise is enabling us to provide both for our customers” he added.
Mr Raniga said the resort’s 45 apartments provided an exciting technical challenge for their solar power services, and look forward to continuing the partnership.
What is a photovoltaic system?
nAlso referred to as PV system is an arrangement of components designed to supply usable electric power for a variety of purposes, using the Sun (or, less commonly, other light sources) as the power source.
