The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation awarded a pay increase this month to all eligible staff.
Chief executive Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the increase is part of a balanced approach that is intended to reward and retain high performers.
More than 95 per cent of staff received increases averaging five per cent to 20 per cent.
He said: “As a responsible employer, we strive to balance the need to reward our people equitably with market rates.
In comparison to previous years, the company recorded its highest profit in 2008. In early 2009, planning began to upgrade our 6 radio stations and create a free to air television service which was launched in November 2011.
“This major upgrade involved the acquisition of new FM and TV equipment, the development of 4 new transmitter sites, construction of 4 new towers, refurbishment of Broadcasting House and hiring of personnel for TV.”
The multi-million dollar project was funded by the Fiji Development Bank.
The upgrade project was successfully completed in 2012 which included the final commissioning of our Malau, Rakiraki site.
Loss
The company recording a budgeted loss in the past two years.
However steady increase in total revenue has been recorded.
In light of this, the company is committed to generating more income and returning profits to its shareholders the Government of Fiji through new revenue streams.
