Inter Island Airways may have indicated plans to start operating in Fiji from mid-March, but our national airline says they do not see them as a threat.
Fiji Airways managing director/chief executive, Stefan Pichler, said: “We do not see press announcements as threats.”
Mr Pichler said Inter Island Airways have said so many times that they will start their operations.
“Once we see a schedule, we will deal with it. Right now we do not see them as a threat,” he said.
Inter Island Airways, the Las Vegas-based Aviana Airways-managed airline, has been delaying the operations in Fiji from the past year.
The reason given for the delay has been the completion of the Air Operating Certificate with the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji.
But it now expects this to be completed next month and direct air services launched between seven of Fiji’s domestic airports from Nadi and Suva by mid-March.
